NYSAPLS Committees

NYSAPLS is more than just meetings and voting. It is a FUN, engaging group of like-minded professionals who give their expertise and ideas, without committing a lot of time.

The ad hoc Minimum Standards Committee has been approved by the NYSAPLS Board of Directors. The committee will set out to define why standards are important; craft set of minimum standards that ensures the welfare of the public, promotes a uniformity of practice throughout New York State and defines levels of accountability of a land surveyor; recommend whether to pursue legislation of these standards.

The By-Laws Committee is a special committee that is convened, as necessary, to review and make recommendations for amendment(s) to the NYSAPLS By-Laws in accordance with the policies of the Board.

The NSPS committee was established to appoint a State Representative to act as a liaison between NYSAPLS and NSPS.

Mission statement: Annual conference shall promote the profession of land surveying by providing a strong, diverse and educational program suited to professionals, pre-professionals, technicians, students, and spouses, with ample opportunity for networking with each other and exhibitors.

Mission Statement: The Education Committee shall develop a core course curriculum for the association’s continuing education program. The committee shall foster recognition of professionalism among students; confer and cooperate with engineering educational institutions; seek continued improvement in the education of surveyors; endeavor to inculcate professionalism through the educational institutions; and promote and manage scholarship funds for education in land surveying.

The Ethical Practices Committee reviews and updates the association's code of practice, discouranges unthical and illegal practices, works in the best interest of our membership to protect the surveying profession.

The Finance Committee is a standing committee that monitors the financial condition and policies of the Association. Its duties and responsibilities are fully outlined in the NYSAPLS By-Laws.

The Legislative Committee is a standing committee that monitors and develops Association policy on state and national legislation affecting the profession and to advise the Association thereon; and, to take appropriate action in accordance with the policies of the Board. The Public Relations Committee promotes public awareness of the profession and plans publicity campaigns to educate the public of the role of the surveyor.
